Take Action

Summer and Fall Volunteering

This volunteering opportunity fits into the category of Taking Action because, I took the initiative to accomplish my volunteering hours. I was fortunate to volunteer in the Children’s Museum of Houston and was able to help families with children have a great experience at the museum. I helped the families find their way around the museum and help lost children to find their way to their parents. I made sure all the utilities were in their places and that the stations were clean. Volunteering was a great way to take action and help my community.

Take Action

Restorative Justice Conference

This field trip fits into the category of Take action because I went to a Restorative Justice Conference and it encouraged me to take an initiative in starting the program over at my school. The topic of the conference was "School to Prison Pipeline" and many important Board of Education members attended the conference. We did a Restorative Justice Circle training and the purpose was to do Roll playing about the topic and coming up with ways to fix the problem. They showed us different methods of how students have been helped in finishing school and not get in trouble(Suspension,ISS, or Jail). At the end of the conference we did a call to action and Jasmine, Harold and I, will be implementing this into our school by next Fall.
